Nathan and Becky Smit have established a scholarship for online students earning their bachelor's degree in food science through K-State Global Campus. Nathan (B.S. in Food Science, '08) currently serves as Senior Innovations Manager at Hormel Foods Corporation. Since earning his bachelor's degree, Smit has quickly advanced at Hormel Foods with six promotions, starting as a lab technician and working his way up to his current position of senior innovation manager. He contributes his success in large part to his K-State education and wanted to give back to help others.
The scholarship is awarded in fall term for $1,000 and can be renewed in the spring for an additional $1,000 if the student maintains a 3.0 K-State GPA.
Scholarship criteria:
- Have a minimum 3.0 K-State GPA. Or a 3.0 transfer GPA if no K-State GPA is currently established.
- Be declared a student in the undergraduate food science degree.
- Be admitted to K-State Global Campus and must be enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours during the term for which the scholarship is received.
