Current Students in the Food Science Institute
Congratulations on choosing Food Science! We are here to help you succeed and prepare you for an exciting career in Food Science.
What will I study?
Your courses will provide excellent training in the basic sciences as well as courses in food chemistry, food microbiology, food analysis, food engineering, food processing, nutrition, product development, and business management.
K-State's nationally recognized undergraduate food science program is approved by the Institute of Food Technologists. The undergraduate program is offered through the College of Agriculture. Three options - science, business, or industry and technology are available.
- Science option - emphasizes the basic sciences
- Business option - minor in business, agribusiness, or agricultural economics.
- Industry and Technology option - emphasizes basic science and prepares students for jobs in quality assurance, research, and product development. This option is designed for students in the online Bachelor Degree Completion Program. This option does not meet Pre-Medicine and Pre-Veterinary Medicine degree requirements. Students interested in the Pre-Medicine and the Pre-Veterinary Medicine degree should choose the on-campus Science option.
Some activities include: Food Science Club; quiz bowl; product development contests; section, national, and international Institute of Food Technologists meetings; and dairy product and meats judging teams.
