Loans and Scholarships for Graduate Students        

Many scholarships are available for graduate students. Here are some sources of scholarships.  Some scholarship deadlines are posted at right.

  • The Pennsylvania State University Graduate Confectionary Fellowship
    This competitive fellowship position is available to a student who will begin enrollment as an M.S. or Ph.D. student during the 2009-10 academic year in the Department of Food Science graduate program. This fellowship shall be awarded for one academic year and may be renewed for subsequent years providing the recipient makes satisfactory progress toward the degree and continues to meet the conditions of eligibility.  See website for details.

  • NSEP David L. Boren Fellowships
    Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. students to add important international and language components to their educations. Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 for an academic year's study abroad. Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 for language study and international research. Applications and detailed information on the Boren Scholarships and Fellowships are now available on www.borenawards.org - our newly designed website. The application deadline for the Boren Fellowship is January 29.   • The Grupo Bimbo
    The Grupo Bimbo, a leading baked goods company in the Americas. The company is sponsoring the 2008 Pan-American Nutrition, Food Science and Technology Awards and we would be thrilled to have you submit your research for consideration. The awards, which have total prize money of more than $55,000, aim to promote nutrition and health research as key factors in society's development by honoring outstanding published papers in those research areas. There are both professional and student category awards. To be eligible for the award, researchers must be:
    Actively participating in scientific and/or technological research projects
    Have concluded at least a Master's Degree two years before October 31st, 2008
    Have published the research being submitted in 2007 and 2008

  • Distillers Grains Research Scholarships
    In 2008 Distillers Grains Technology Council (DGTC) will be providing a number of graduate student research scholarships. This is to encourage increased research and reward outstanding research accomplished regarding the rapidly growing quantity of distillers grains products. It will take the combined creative efforts of many people, universities and companies in the production and utilization of these co-products of dry mill fuel ethanol plants.
    Award:  $500 or $750

  • Joseph Zayas Graduate Student Award
    The award will be presented to the candidate who has made significant contributions to outstanding research in physical and chemical properties of food as a graduate student at Kansas State University.
    The award is $500.

  • Alvin and RosaLee Sarachek Predoctoral Honors Fellowship in Molecular Biology
     

    This fellowship provides a $15,000 award to a resident graduate student enrolled in a Ph.D. program in any College, Department or Program at Kansas State University.

  • American Egg Board-Egg Nutrition Center Fellowship
    Eligibility:  Ph.D degree candidates studying nutrition or nutrition-related fields at accredited nonprofit U.S. institutions offering doctorate degrees Students who aspire to teaching and research careers in nutrition.
    Application deadline:  January 31 (letter of intent - 2 pages - postmarked no later than January 31st) April 15th, full application due.

  • Timothy R. Donoghue Graduate Scholarship Program
    Amount:  For master's students, the scholarship may be up to 25% of the assistantship offered by the graduate program (to a maximum supplement of $3,000).  For doctoral students, the scholarship may be up to 50% of the assistantship offered by the graduate program (to a maximum supplement of $5,000).  Scholarships are renewable for a second year.
